Blastocyst Culture

Blastocyst Culture

Posted : 24 June 2023

Blastocyst Culture is the cultivation of embryos after fertilization of sperm and oocytes in a standardized laboratory with technology designed to closely resemble and mimic the human body. There will be temperature, humidity, pH, gas in the right amount and sterile. It starts from the 1-cell stage of the embryo > divides to 2 cells > to 4 cells > to 8 cells > to 32 cells > until it reaches more than 100 cells and combines to form a compacted stage embryo. After that, these cells mature into blastocyst stage embryos. This process takes about 5-6 days. It is the most suitable and complete embryo before being transferred and brought back into the uterus of the female in the next step.

This is a very important step in in vitro fertility treatment (IVF/ICSI). The chances of a successful pregnancy through IVF depend on a healthy, well-growing embryo. The blastocyst stage of the embryo increases the chances of successful pregnancy and embryo implantation.

Factors affecting the pregnancy success of blastocyst culture

  • Integrity of the embryo: Scientists always analyze the embryo before it is implanted.
  • Embryo Chromosomes: Scientists only analyze, diagnose and select embryos with normal chromosomes.
  • Health and age factors, with age over 35 years old: it will result in the number and quality of embryo cells not being as healthy as they should be.

It is the stage where the embryo is strong and then inserted back into the uterus to allow the embryo to implant and become pregnant. It can increase your chances of getting pregnant.
