Assisted Hatching is another technology used in the process of treating infertility caused by the inability of the embryo to hatch from the shell of the egg. Normally, the embryo has a shell-like structure. Medically, this outer covering is called the Zona Pellucida. It is a protective structure of the embryo cell. When the embryo wants to be implanted, the embryo has to come out of its shell. This crust might be too thick or tough. It causes the embryo to not hatch, making the pregnancy unsuccessful.
Therefore, Assisted Hatching is used to open the outer shell of the embryo to facilitate hatching from the shell. It can increase the implantation rate of the embryo, especially in embryos that have been frozen before or in embryos with a thicker shell structure. It also includes in spouses where the woman is older as well.
