  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) :

This method is a method of treating infertility by removing sperm and eggs from fertilized couples in a standardized, sterile laboratory with proper temperature and humidity control. The sperm naturally mixes with the egg by using a plate for fertilization.

  • ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection )

It is another way to treat infertility. The procedure and process are the same as in IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). But the ICSI method adds another aid in the fertilization process by selecting only one healthy sperm cell and use a glass needle with a very small diameter to pierce the shell of the egg cell and inject the sperm directly into the egg cell. It is an alternative to assisted reproductive technologies that are used to treat infertility or in the event of IVF failure.

ICSI is a technique developed and invented to solve some problems that used to allow sperm cells to naturally mix with egg cells and then fail because sperm cells are unable to penetrate the shell of the egg cell itself, it may be due to:

  • Sperm cells in males are not strong, the appearance of sperm cells is deformed. or there is an abnormality
  • The egg cell has an eggshell that is so thick that the sperm cell cannot penetrate it.

What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?

IVF and ICSI are the same as in vitro fertilization but differ only in the additional process. In short:

  • IVF is taking sperm and egg cells from male and female bodies and allowing the sperm cells to naturally mix with egg cells in a laboratory.
  • ICSI is a helper that makes fertilization more successful by taking sperm and egg cells from the body of both males and females and selecting the strongest sperm cells to inject into the oocyte (When the shell of the egg cell is thick and sticky, or the sperm cell cannot penetrate the shell) within the laboratory.

Who is IVF suitable for?

In vitro fertilization is suitable for couples with unexplained infertility problems or who have tried to have children for more than 2 years but have not been successful. It includes those who are infertile by health and age factors.

  • It is suitable for women with the following problems:
    • People over 35 with the Low Ovarian Reserve
    • People with Pelvic Organ Abnormal
    • Those who have tubal factor abnormalities, such as obstructed or crooked fallopian tubes, edema or lack of fallopian tubes (congenital abnormalities), or who have had tubal removal surgery.
    • In the event that the uterus is absent from surgery due to health problems (can’t get pregnant)
    • Endometriosis
    • Pelvic Adhesion
    • Adhesions from fallopian tube surgery
    • Troubled ovulation, anovulation, and failed oral and injectable treatments.
    • People with genetic abnormalities are at risk for various diseases such as birth defects or frequent abortions due to chromosomal abnormalities.
    • People who need surgery on the ovaries, such as ovarian cysts, ovarian tumors, or chocolate cysts
    • Females who are at risk of cancer or are at risk of suffering from various serious diseases.(It depends on the discretion of the medical team)
  • It is suitable for men with the following problems:
    • Males with semen problems have less than 10 million sperm cells/ml. (Oligozoospermia)
    • Males with unexplained infertile infertility or trying to conceive for more than 2 years but still failed.
    • Males who have abnormal sperm cell function such as Teratozoospermia, Asthenozoospermia, Azoospermia or Aspermia.
    • Males who are at risk of cancer or are at risk of various serious diseases (It depends on the discretion of the medical team)
